Gilded Cassetta frame

The Cassetta style frame originates from the Italian Renaissance. Historically the flat section in the middle of the frame would have been decorated with pattern, icons or images. Nowadays it is usually left plain. In this frame we used a washed paint finish echoing colours from the painting itself.  We also applied a warm gold ‘bronze powder’ using a wax medium to the sight edge (inner) and outer mouldings.
