We’re often asked to stretch canvases that folk have brought back from their holidays. While we stretch canvasses for artists all year round, a ready painted canvas brings its own challenges. They are often painted on poor quality canvas, or with thick (impasto) paint, have been rolled before dry, are not square, etc etc. This modern Italian abstract fell into none of the above categories, (though the border was a bit narrow, making it difficult to get leverage with the stretching pliers, thus reducing the painted image by a few millimetres). We finished it off with a 6mm white painted edge trim glued to a sub-frame which in turn was screwed to the stretcher bars. Simple, light, and crisp looking.
